#LI-OnsiteWe are looking for a Research Scientist with knowledge and experience on carbohydrate chemistry to join our growing Microbiome Team within the Explore Health and Nutrition Category at our onsite laboratory.
In this role, you will synthesize, identify, isolate, characterize, and develop novel oligosaccharide ingredients from natural sources that may have implications for human health and nutrition.
These novel ingredients will predominantly fall under the ever-growing 'biotics' umbrella - prebiotics, probiotics, postbiotics, and beyond.
You will report to the Category Technical Leader for Microbiome.
In this dynamic role located in New Jersey, you will:
Propose, design, develop and/or conduct experiments related to synthesis, isolation/extraction, fermentation, identification, and characterization of novel soluble oligosaccharides and/or bioactive compounds Apply structure-activity relationship knowledge and/or other appropriate tools to predict the potential bioactivities which will be tested consequently by our microbiome scientist Perform analytical measurements and evaluate compounds from natural botanical sources for potential application in food or beverage or dietary supplement matrices Lead cross functional teams (internal and external) to complete projects Communicate results to upper managements and provide recommendations for further project development Manage or contribute to research projects or parts of research projects Ensure a safe, clean, and organized lab environment following EH&S policies and good laboratory practices Maintain all required experimental records and brief documentation in company database software Engage with the proper stakeholders to ensure that organizational performance is achieved File patent applications, draft and submit manuscripts for scientific publicationsPreferred
Qualifications:
PhD in chemistry, engineering, bioprocessing, food science or similar Master's degree with about 5 years of relevant experience with carbohydrates Experience with multi-step organic synthesis and SAR is highly preferred Experience with extraction and isolation/purification techniques from complex raw materials Familiarity with analytical equipment/techniques such as GC, GC/MS, LC, LC/MS, TLC Experience with enzymatic reactions or microbial fermentation is advantageous Experience with literature searches and develop laboratory methods/process related to extraction, fermentation, and analysis of bioactive materials Record keeping skills and experience in designing experiments Proven ability to work with diverse, multidisciplinary teams to deliver project results on timeBenefits include medical, dental, vision and a high matching 401k plan.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
